RopeGun Climbing panel with integrated back mounting flange Installation instructions

RopeGun Climbing panels are perfect for setting up a home fitness, climbing, bouldering, or Ninja wall. They’re simple to install, whether you’re adding a few panels or creating a large climbing area.

Panel Specifications

  • Each standard panel consists of a ¾” thick plywood climbing panel and a ½” back mounting flange (MDF), totaling 1 ¼” in thickness.
  • Panels are pre-assembled in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and shipped as one unit.
  • We pre-drill holes and install t-nuts in each panel.
  • You provide climbing holds and bolts.

Installation Requirements

  • Designed for standard finished stud walls (2×4 or larger wood studs, 16” apart, with ½” sheetrock/gypsum board).

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

  1. Prepare for Installation:
    • Locate wall studs using a stud finder.
    • Gather at least four 3 ½” decking screws per panel.
  2. Mount the Panel:
    • Align the panel against the wall.
    • Secure each panel with a minimum of four screws, ensuring at least two screws anchor into two separate studs.
  3. Choose an Installation Method:
    • Butt Joint Method: Ideal for fewer panels. Simply align each panel snugly against the next.
    • Honeycomb Method: Recommended for multiple panels. Use a ¼” spacer (like cut paint sticks from hardware stores) between panels to create a uniform honeycomb pattern.
  4. Plan Your Layout:
    • Use paper or cardboard cutouts to map out the panel layout on the wall.
    • Adjust the layout as needed before the actual installation.
  5. Tack Panels Temporarily (Optional):
    • If available, use an air gun and trim nails to temporarily tack panels in place.
    • This allows for easy adjustments before final mounting.
  6. Secure the Panels:
    • Once positioned, pre-drill and countersink screw holes.
    • Fasten the panels securely with screws.
  7. Safety and Assistance:
    • It’s recommended to install with at least two adults for ease and safety.
  8. Floor Clearance:
    • Consider starting the wall about 12 inches off the floor to accommodate crash pads or mats.
